Knowing God's will

Tell us about your background. When did you become a Christian? 


 

I grew up in a Christian family, but actually I wasn’t very interested in God or faith. In my perception, God was always distant. When I left home to start my law studies, I started reading my Bible. That changed my life. I learnt so much about the real God and the real Jesus. It was amazing. 



 

How did your new faith change you? How did you see the world differently? 


 

At my student union, I took part in Bible study groups. More and more I learnt to see that God has a heart for this world. He really loves people but he can’t stand unrighteousness and injustice. 



 

When did you hear about missions? Why India? 


 

During my studies, a longing grew in my heart to serve God in missions, whether in the Netherlands or abroad. I didn’t prefer a destiny, but deep within thought India would be good, because it was so totally different to my ‘safe Holland’. I expected a good (or shocking) experience. And it was. So I spent two months in Mumbai, a city of 16 million people. A large percentage of the people there live in very bad circumstances. I met prostitutes, victims of human trafficking, who were forced to sell their bodies. Sometimes they were very young girls. I talked with people in slum communities, poor, less education. In all these miserable situations, I have seen a glimpse of hope when people come to know Jesus. Awesome. All these experiences changed my view on what’s most important in life.

 

How can I know God's plan for my life?


 

Good question… I still wonder. I think you can learn it step-by-step. I think it starts with obedience to the word of God. In the Bible we see that God has a plan with the world, with people. The way He communicates depends on the different persons and situations. Further: The Lord gave us specific talents. Find out what your talents are and how they can function in God’s plan.

 

How can I prepare well for a missions trip?

 

1. Read your Bible and pray. So the Lord will show you the way.


2. Be open-minded and follow your heart to the organisation/country where the Lord wants to use you. 


3. Get into the country, culture and people you will meet. Be a Greek to the Greeks, and an Indian to the Indians.

 

Why are you excited about Mission-Net?


 

Conferences like this are important opportunities for God to touch our hearts. The Mission-Net conference gives ways of opportunities to meet organisations, be inspired during the sessions and to meet people from so many different places. I pray that it will be a blessed time!
